I hope I do not offend someone but: You need to wire the ends of your branches up,or you will weaken your tree. Your wiring looks a bit shaky especially in the middle of the tree, where it seems that one wire is piled on top of another and another on top of that. Your artistry and eye for design is excellent and is just waiting for your technique to catch up with your talent.

Below is a Potentilla I photographed in Glacier National Park this summer at the top of the going to the sun road. I wish I could have collected it.

Not offence taken !
The tips are in tact wired up maybe not realy visible in this picture
The wire in the Middle part is kinda messy indeed i had to put some extra wire in after i finished because some were not heavy enough to hold the branches in place, thnx for the complimrnt, the Deadwood is 100% my own work but i cannot take the full credit on the styling because i did that together with my teacher

I had to temporarily move my trees to the stonewall at the end of last season while my roof was being done. I ended up liking how they looked there. I may incorporate this spot as a new display area. Any suggestions on what to do w the hillside behind them to clean up the look and make a decent background for the trees?

You can get a roll of reed fencing at Home Depot 6' x 16' for less than $30.00. I'd cut the roll in half lengthwise, or even in thirds, pound some stakes along the hill behind the trees and wire the reeds to the stakes.

I'll post a tree picture a little later...

Is that a dry, sandy, and bright hillside location? Where in MA?

Bobby, that tree is going to need some serious growth to cover the chop, and grow out new branches (and lots of cutback to develop taper on those branches...)

Which means it’s going to need to doa lot of growing! Which isn’t possible in that pot. Take it out of the pot, and use a shallow but wide grow box. You need lots of root to grow all the top growth you’ll be needing.

Meanwhile...

Here’s a JWP. Kokonoe to be exact. Antique Chinese pot.

Hi Adair, this one is still very raw, not really done much yet.this isnt final height, im strongly considering a powerful broom, so will be chopped again above the curve or just where begins
there is currently enough branches on the tree to begin that process and a slanting cut will20190131_095704.jpg be made between a cluster of branches...there isnt much taper in this trunk you see.
the nebari is outstanding, so that is the main feature.
personally i see shallow grow boxes more suitable for when you need to develop a flat root system or want to drag the base out on a tree, this tree doesnt need all that.
the current depth of pot is more than suitable at this stage.these are strong growers.

Thanks and appreciate your feedback
