The Tree Thread

Sometimes when you just can’t find the love for a particular tree you have to do something bold that only you can appreciate.

That pot with the live wood is going to be gorgeous...and where you took that tree...Well done!

Sometimes it is interesting to see the before and present. Often times the change is considerable. This Azalea was grown in a typical landscape bed for 25 years prior to being dug out for Bonsai. The height of the tree at that time was approximately four or five feet. Over the past decade I have reduced and compacted with new foliage to the present height of 26 inches. This spring i thread grafted a couple of extra branches in suitable locations. The tree should be much better in appearance within a few more years! Two shots for interest one in 2015 and one in 2019. Flowering in 2020.IMG_0509.jpegIMG_0758.jpegIMG_1072.jpegIMG_4073.jpeg

Potentilla after a restructure of branches and reduction of congested twigs last Winter. Second cutback this year - not really done much with it tbh except add a bit of wire and liberal use of guy wires a la WP.

I'm a little confused. What makes a Satsuki a Satsuki?

I guess every Rhodondendron Indicum is a Satsuki? I read that Satsuki comes from Sa-tsuki... means fifth month and symbolises springtime.
That's also when they bloom
