So I’m on a camping trip and there are these little white oak seedlings everywhere. The leaves have started coming out but just barely. Is it too late to collect these? The picture is just an example but there are lots with leaves less unfurled.

The rules say it's too late.

But Seedlings are notoriously tough at that age..

ESPECIALLY hardwood-specied seedlings.

So although I'm REQUIRED to say "No"... I, PERSONALLY, would collect a few...

Dig, don't "pull"... even though it's temptingly easy to do so.

🤓

Can't go wrong. (AND out of the two.. I'd say your ID is correct)
The old chestnut oak near by is a interesting tree. It appears it has little burls or witches brooms all over it. Also multi trunk

An aluminum can cut in half works.

Tie some sticks together on a flat plane.. make a lil
pitchfork.

The flat-tip of a tire-iron would be better than tent-stake.

License plate would work...

If you drive a truck.. those single floor mats CAN be pretty stiff.

@HorseloverFat glad you can get a moment of peace from this place too. I figured you of all people would appreciate it . Lots of inspiration here and a connection with the native Americans who used to thrive in these mountains. I’ve had my eyes out for old Indian marker trees. No luck yet.

I CALL SHINANIGANS!!!!!!!!!!

You're "camping" but still have data signal?
Doesn't count.

You're "camping" but don't have a shovel?
You will never fight off the bears and zombies without a shovel.
Get a shovel.
There’s not too much in NC that doesn’t have data signal. I’m in the Uwharrie mountains, not the Appalachian mountains. Still counts 😜

I have the 2nd amendment for the bears and zombies 😉

I AM NEVER CAMPING IN NC THEN.
Sorry, nothing personal, just for me the whole point is to leave civilization behind.
It's hard to find solitude now days.
