Trident Maple (ROR Progression)

It was exciting to work with you @MACH5 this past weekend at the Bonsai on the Bayou. Thank you for the sketch and ideas. Planning on the next steps for this tree. A angle change and reduction of foliage to bring to focus the exposed roots.

Likewise! Great to work with you. I had no idea you were also a BNutter!!

Look forward to see its progression. Best of luck and bonsai on!

This fall, my trident maple showcased an amazing red color that truly stood out here in Central Texas. Over the year, I did 3 partial defoliations to encourage ramification and maintain its vigor. Now that fall is here, I’m working on the seasonal cleanup and making slight branch adjustments to prepare for the next growing season.

Amazing job on this! I’m in central Tx also and just got a few rocks to try my first. Did you put any substrate in with the roots that were wrapped in the silicone tape? Or only the roots below were in substrate? Looks awesome

Here’s a quick update on my root-over-rock Trident maple. This season it went through two partial defoliations, which helped reduce leaf size and strengthen the ramification. I also repotted it and set a new angle, building on the work that started last fall. Today I did its fall clean up.

The tree is responding well, and the new orientation really shows off the movement over the rock. Excited to see how it continues to develop heading into next year.
