"V" Notching Made Easy

I'm curious how others would tackle this one.

Shave off top of branch including bare stub back to trunk and make desired bend. Can either wrap or use grafting wax, etc over bare wood or leave to weather naturally as it heals over. Saw similar used in Bonsai Techniques II if memory is correct. Also was suggested to self by Randy Knight when studying his trees for purchase and this came up. Believe saw as well in Bonsai Art of Kimura books.

This is the same guy that collects those "American bonsai" out west? Some need bends? Huh! I would sure think he wouldn't even considering digging such a tree up. Must be the trees he sells as workshop trees.
