What did you do today? Show us Pic Required

Spent yesterday with my bonsai group, Arbor Arts Collective. I love being able to see other people's home setups because we usually only see each other's show ready trees. Now I don't feel as bad when I neglect a tree a little, I know it's just part of the process.

Also for the two year anniversary of closing on our house my girlfriend and I planted a Japanese maple. Last year we planted a peach tree. Being on a city corner lot I'm not sure how much longer we can keep the tree tradition rolling. This is replacing a box elder maple that was cut down in March.

Hi!

Today I decided to go and start this new project with a proper analysis and drawings.
No action done other than cleaning the deadwood amd choosing the face.
Branches placement should be done before winter.

Hi!

I did a bit more work on Sunday and today as well.
I worked the dead wood, wiring and placement of the structural branches.
My sensei also did a drawing without the deadwood part so we can focus on the structure.

And from now I will focus on growing, health and placement of the secondary and tertiary branches.
I will post more pictures of the structure placement when the needles are gone!

Thanks
Ugo

Been a busy few days hosting a couple of professionals while working on trees. Finished setting initial structure and styling on an engelmann and subalpine fir over the weekend. Today we started on a large Pondo that required a significant structure setting and initial styling on another Colorado blue spruce.

^ Do you do any styling/pruning on your own trees?
I do the majority of the pruning on my trees. There’s been a few that Ryan has done that he specifically wanted to follow up on. Trees of a certain value/provenance is done by known professionals like Todd or Ryan but I set initial structure or design on any other raw yamadori. I did invite Sam Tan(he’s a fellow Singaporean and is also Mirai trained) as he’s starting out his professional career. All designs are conversations however and I’ve been fortunate that all of them have allowed me to have final say/design ideas.

Sam Tan’s work is some of my favorite right now. He’s got nice ideas and execution.

Cleaned out some brush from my next planned collection. Plan is for this weekend to grab it. I saw it and just.... I have to have it.

Haha wtf I never saw something like that .. but if you could pull that off .. that would be dope.. it’s like a portal into a bonsai realm. Or the left side would be something .. hard part is to determine what root system lives w what

Didn’t do this today. Yesterday. But still. Collected 2 one seed juniper
It's so funny when I see trees here and then recognize them on Instagram. Apparently I already follow you

And my obligatory photo. I grew some awesome carrots this year.

Today I wired and pruned my JWP. Still undecided on wich of the two backgrounds works better....

First one imo. Second one reflects the light too much.

I worked outside all day in rain and 30 mph winds. Then came home and sat on my recliner reading the forums :)

About 4ft tall.

Yes. There are several pieces or rebar intertwined in the trunks. They will need to be cut out with a grinder probably.
Won't that close the portal?????

Got a Hawaiian Umbrella for my terrarium coming. Might end up with a tree frog in there too at some point.😁

Lol. The branches are so coiled together at this point that nothing is closing that portal!

Obligatory photo. Put trees back on benches after all the rain this weekend. Going to start a thread on this palmatum. Its my oldest. From a seed.

More pictures on its thread...

Got most of the wiring done I'm going to on this JWP. Still have a couple months to finish up.
Now I need to go back out and check the end of one of the wires. Looks like I forgot to trim it off.
Was running into small shoots I didn't want to break, and had to coil the wire there a bit awkwardly.
Anyway, got most of the branches pulled back down again.
