While waiting for my BC delivery from @Cajunrider , I helped this poor little guy cool down. He made his self at home in the garage on the cool floor in front of the fans and I gave him some water and some kibble along with an ice cold wet towel. He must have ran away last night during the fireworks. Poor little fella was burning up!IMG_3022.jpegIMG_3021.jpeg

Hi Bryan, What do you think is the cause of your Arakawa leaf damage on a few bottom branches? Fungus or heat/dry out? Do you have any plan to deal with it or just leave it be?
Nah, it’s fine. Probably dried out a little too much once.

Found a couple tortoise beetle larvae.
Aren't they interesting? Camouflaged with frass and when I detached them from the leaf and flipped them over, they were able to do a bridge and upright themselves.

Going on a vacation tomorrow. Bought a automation water timer a couple of weeks ago, just to find out it's going to rain almost every day the next week, both were my trees are located and were i'm located at vacation😂View attachment 555931
Well you know your trees will be fine either way. Also even if it will rain, I still water my trees unless we get a half an inch or more. Less than that might not be enough

Well, I don't know. It might help with moss picking, but you'll get bird poop and seed sprouting all over your trees. View attachment 555705
Love the Diphasiastrum digitatum, running cedar. Have tried to transplant it without success.

Putting a bird feeder near the bonsai I fear will be like a neon sign and attract more birds - foods here come and get it, and while your waiting for your turn at the feeder, you can snack at the bonsai bar.

My Elm has recovered from the black spot.

Yes, my first attempt to gather clubmoss. I made sure I got the nodes with roots and put it in the shade in sandy soil pretty close to the invironment I got it from. We'll see...
My son tried last year and it looked fine through the winter and then got fried in the spring...

Finally got up the gumption to start on a Plan for the big Blue Atlas Cedar I bought two months ago and have been dreading chopping since - I just loved how tall it was, but the taper wasn't really there. I still ended up being a bit of a coward with the first couple of (far more drastic cut-back) suggestions for it and settled on this. Still need to do some further branch selection and wiring, but this felt like enough for right now.

First cut (ouch!):

Setting up for some jin later:

On the upside, it was a lot easier getting it in the car to get home after... >_>;;

Ceiling fans and 5 times a day water. :confused:

Here's why...

Unless the ceiling fans are for you so you can stay cool while working on your trees, they’re probably increasing transpiration without contributing anything of importance. If you turn them off, you might not have to water 5 times a day.
