Just unpacked a surprise FEDEX delivery of my Amelia Rose azalea. It's taller than I expected and may be two plants in one pot, I don't want to dig around too much. It came from Georgia, so it's going to have to live inside for a couple of months. amy.jpgamy trunk.jpg

I forgot to take a before picture. Clearance rack jack job by me. First time doing a Christmas tree. It came out different than I envisioned. I would do things much different if I had another round. Hope it doesn’t die because I am fond of the ugly duckling 😂

Looks fun! Dare I ask?
Hollowing with a Forster bit?
Almost... 12" drill bit. I use these to hollow out long sections of trunk and/or hard to reach regions of the trunk wood needing to be removed. Here the ume is sitting in frozen soil so no wiggling, and I'm going back to hollows started last year and expanding them on the inside. I'll be using this along with either a dremel or die grinder to further the work.

Unexpectedly big day for me today. Finally cleaned up my overwintering area;

Checked on all my outside plants; most seem good and the questionable ones are not verifiably dead. Even have some green. Phlox I think?

Figured I oughta clean up the garden too. Ive had a tomato sitting in a pot there since Summer... All tucked away now

I'm not sure how much I'll put back there this season. It gets very little light except in the mornings and late afternoon.

I sifted some DE, gave all my plants a loving glance, and called it quits :)

I went to Home Depot looking for one of these to make a bald cypress forest in. I know lowes has them but I had a Home Depot gift card… and of course home depot doesn’t stock them.

Yak yak yac.... Lots of pictures due;) this is not the teahouse.

It warmed up big time today so I walked my tropicals out and hosed them down. They were enjoying 59 and sunshine in Ohio January.
Checking on all the winter stash too. Plenty wet here but windy.

Nice day 🥰
Sunburn on this j maple I think. From last winter.

Another big day for August in January. Went to get my tire patched and was in the neighborhood of some of my favorite nurseries; picked up a Euphorbia millii (I believe they call it a crown of thorns) with an interesting bend;

Also nabbed a P. afra; it's really hard to find any in Colorado besides big box sticks so I was stoked to find this one with a weird trunk line; repotted this one kind of rough, going for my first root-over-rock. Crossing my fingersPXL_20230118_040738221.jpg
Also sorted out my pot "collection". So far it's been freebies, thrift store finds, or things on clearance, pretty happy with the hoard. PXL_20230118_022511636.jpg
All's left to do is develop some trees good enough for a pot... And clean up my mess ->PXL_20230118_040926865.jpg

I spent awhile operating on this tree. Came out of a 2.5 Gal pot and was almost pot bound. I cleaned out a soft spot that I discovered. Hopefully in the future, this will become a very interesting feature. I also did some minor root sorting as it had quite a bit of crossing roots.

Anyways, only picture of took of this tree tonight. Nothing much to look at topside anyways. Time to let it rest and recover for the year before I start really thinking about the styling.
