Made this orchid pot. The cutouts are rather haphazard, but with nice glaze, sphagnum/bark and a pretty orchid in I'd say nobody will notice.
Going to make saucer for it and give it to my daughter in law for her birthday.
I was getting chilled in the basement and just wanted to get it done.

Nice. When I did handmade items, someone told me you should always leave a couple of "marks of the maker" on a piece. Perfection reeks of machine-made objects. Also, he told me that people buy the story as well as the object.

I'm with you there. I have come across ones that are more like co-ops, only around to collect funds for rural road maintenance and such. That'd be my one exception.

And to be fair, I live in an area where it isn't uncommon to see entire fences cobbled together like that, and your yard would have to go a long way before it looks as bad as mine. 🤣
Neighbor wasn't very amused . She was the one that talked about some type of screen oh well . Maybe I should get started on my next project lol . If I cant get the video to post here check out this guy in palm springs that started a thing called Robo Lights . They finally shut him down after 20 plus years , I didn't know about it when I was there last winter . I'm not tech savvy enough to post You Tube video on here . But my kind of artist lol

Was talking with someone the other day about this stuff. He'd ordered the same thing from home Depot.
I'm playing with it some myself, and I definitely recommend that small granule size. The stuff I got is much larger, and it doesn't hold water for crap. I hear great things from others, but moisture retention is definitely a weak point for zeolite.

Picked up a pot after glaze fire and an unwanted pot I was given to try my own wood ash glaze. The ugly thing on the right.

"Stole" moss from Home Depot parking lot. The nice bluish variety growing on the asphalt.

If anybody remembers my plywood plant shelf I threw together a couple months ago:20231007_174449.jpg

Somebody aptly pointed out that the plywood would get bent out of shape pretty quick, and they were right; the weight and lack of support led to a dangerous sag in the center of the boards:

Thankfully my work had been using the intended shelves for display purposes and recently we put them out of commission, so I was able to take them home and install them. Way safer now!20231217_160658.jpg

Picked up a couple "potted Christmas trees" for a contest, both in 7 gallon pots.

Did a little cleaning on the Dwarf Alberta Spruce and uncovered a lot more thickness at the base.

The Black Hills Spruce has TINY needles! This particular one's needles were about half the size of all the ones around it.

I actually had about 40 white pine seeds sink when I soaked them earlier this month, so I’m warm stratifying them. By the end of January or so they’ll need 90 days of cold stratification, from what I’ve read. Thinking since it’s white pine my deep freezer will be ok for it.

Worth a shot. We need more white pine.

What kind of WP?

Got all but one JWP and most hinoki, in the cave for Winter storage this past week.
Still have some cleaning to do on the hinoki.
Did a 2nd cleaning on my JWP and it is ready to go into storage.

I like to cover the soil with grocery bags before cleaning needles to limit clean up of the surface later.

Had a nice weekend to take advantage of. Pulled some trees out of the beds to clean up and check on. I hurriedly stuffed them away when I went to FL for a weekend that turned into 6 weeks:) ...it happens. 1702921127385.png1702921172816.png1702921152121.png
Pup can't understand why the water got hard while we were away. Her stick is right there where she can see it but...1702921320339.png
