For the first time I spent 10 hours doing bonsai in a day. It was great to get a lot done.
I also repotted this Korean Hornbeam. The roots were away from the trunk
So I cleaned the dirt out and wrapped them pressed against the trunk hopefully it works out.
I also did the Zelkova Elm. I was wondering that people think about it potential as a broom? My thought was that it has too long of a trunk?

Opening day for the new international bistro tomorrow and brought the first tree in for the rotation.

Personally, I would’ve just removed all those high roots down to the point where there is a 360 spread.

Today I did a ton of small garden tasks, like cleaning and organizing things. I moved all these trees and most the pumice into this raised bed. Eventually, I’ll get around to burying the containers a bit more.

I also removed wire from several trees. This one got a few new pieces of wire to start to form a pad on the lowest/front “trunk”, and I’m pretty happy with that part of the tree.

Made an Amur maple group planting on a rock slab. It’s not quite done. I still need to add moss, but the rest is in place.

Actually Saturday (it was a very busy weekend!), I got some help from our club's senior mentor (Joe) on styling my Virginia creeper. Everybody was curious about what the hell it was since the buds are just breaking and it's got that hairy trunk!
First wiring ever; I'll not get it finished until Wednesday.

And today: an emergency repot of the American hawthorn bunjin. I loved it in that sassy little green pot, but it was a very tight fit and the height of the tree made it vulnerable in heavy winds. It tumbled off my display table a couple of weeks ago, and then this weekend was very windy and it came down twice---breaking the pot.
I found this little bowl at Goodwill ($3.99) a couple of months ago, and after drilling for drainage and wires, I think it's a nice bunjin pot. And it's heavy enough not to blow over!

Moved (almost) all the outdoor trees from the garage to the patio for the season - the only ones staying behind a little bit longer are the Blue Atlas Cedars that are recent repots, and the poor little Trident Maple I butchered at a workshop that is (as yet!) still clinging to life. They'll still get supervised outings when it's not gusting windy as it is right now.

Happily, the (hideously grafted) JWPs I bought off Etsy that arrived with tiny root systems choked in clay seem to enjoy their new pond baskets and are budding out!

I bought those trees from the same seller but off ebay. Mine had a lot of rot issues

Sent these three off to spend some time with a friend from the bonsai club. He's going to repot them and do the after care while I continue recovering from surgery.
Two Japanese black pine and one Scots pine that need their first bonsai pot. He took a crate of pots to put them in.


The rest of my trees can survive another year in the pots they're in.

Yesterday I pinched back the candles 75% on my main JWP
then got my JWP together for a group shot.
EDIT: There's 5 JWP in the picture plain as day.

New bonsai table and irrigation system for daily misting (extended watering time for vacations). Finally able to consolidate all my trees for a permanent placement, given the season and some more stands to get those large pots off the ground.

We found a Fukian Tea (named Marylin) the other day at Lowes, neglected and bone-dry with glued moss on top. Repotted -- hoping it takes to the substrate well.

We replaced the dead boxwoods in our front garden, and I tried to save one (named Hope) with some green showing (under table for photo). Not sure it's going to make it.

x2 Japanese maple (Alexander [bloodgood] & Julius [regular red]) It appears two of five Japanese red maple cuttings from Julius have taken root and are now showing signs of budding.

Not really sure what to do with the trident maple (Antoni). I need to figure out when a good time is to wire, as it needs some influence and correction. Not really sure how I'm going to style this one. I'm currently reading "Modern Bonsai Practice: 501 Principles" by Larry Morton (ft. Walter Paul Bonsai) and hope to come across something soon. It's extremely informative so far. Maybe I'll come across the answer there.

Brazilian rain tree (Marcus) to the left is awaiting a new pot. Its broken pot is stable with the saran wrap for now. Neat seeing its leaves open for the day and close at night -- BRTs = awesome.

Little jade showed up today. Kids named it Baby Groot.

x2 Chinese elms (Ranch and Branch) are doing well.

Alberta spruce named Avalanche inherited a stand (I told the kids no more rhyming names).

Three young junipers (Bob, Mike, and Steve [I chose those names to get the kids back]) are hiding in the back.
