Well, I finally made it back to Florida. Standard I-95 rat race. I think every truck in the eastern states was on I-95 yesterday. Only difficulty was gassing up and cleaning the windshield on crutches. Not a fun experience. Got out back this morning to see how all the little trees faired while I was gone. Not bad at all. A few loses, but those were the expected ones that weren’t doing well before I left. All my cuttings rooted, but none of my air layers took. I think they might have dried out while I was gone. Not a big lose because the bases of those are growing well, so I still have one good viable tree below each air layer. Some of them started growing crazy now that the temperatures have dropped. Even several of the Japanese maples are doing a good fall push of new leaves. Only picture I took was this little Blue Atlas Cedar. Looking like I need to up pot it. Roots are doing great.

Found a new landscape nursery that I'd never been to...grabbed 2 large Grace Hendrick Philips boxwoods on the club nursery crawl. I had never heard of this cultivar previously, the leaves are comparable to a Kingsville I would say.

Pruned one of them up, sorry for the horrible photos.

I've been working on some fall clean up of my trees. Lots of little stuff, but it makes for quick work.

Don't know why my images are rotated after uploading them, but I'm too lazy to play with it atm...

Digging weeds out, cleaning the soil of debris, and pruning to remove dead bits and minor directional pruning. Wiring up the small plants to set their structure.

I found what appears to be a trident maple, but might be an Amur maple (only because I don't have any trident maples unless I picked up a rouge seed somewhere)

While cleaning up and prepping for tropicals to come inside found 2 fukien cuttings I stuck in perlite/sphagnum mix last summer. Tossed the skinny one (very proud of myself), but potted up the fatter short one :(

Did you have to sell your soul to a crossroads demon to be able to grow Fukien tea?

Today I cleaned some of the dead branches of this yew tree, in order to open space for ramification and let the light in. The tree appears to be neglected after being collected three years ago, and more than half of the branches is dead. Cutting dried wood with a saw was shaking the tree too much and with the fear of damaging the roots, I kept it at minimum and only removed the necessary ones for the time being.

I also stratified bald cypress seeds that I had collected two days ago, using perlite.

What I have found is if the image is a lot taller than wide, it loads is sideways. When it does that to me I crop the photo to make it shorter and it loads correctly.

Unpackaged two dwarf Albert spruce, both are over two feet tall in 3 gallon pots, shipped from Fast Growing Trees.

Then I gathered seed from some shrubbery to refrigerate for early spring planting in the hot tub room…hardy pink lantana and pyracantha.

Checked the cones on my landscape conifers: Colorado Blue spruce, Mugo pine, and lodge pole pines. None are ready to open yet, so checking a few last year cones.

And seeds from my Green Ash tree. Photo of seeds is in another post.
Cooked spaghetti and homemade meat sauce with fresh garlic bread.
