Where do you like to order pots from?

Hi @Katie0317 --

I'm down in Polk Co. Also new to bonsai -- not many plants, and less experience, so mostly a fangirl -- and hoping to work with clay too.
(Nevermind the mudmen, I'm harmless...😁)

In awe of your orchids! Hope you'll post in the Flowers thread!

Let's be optimistic & say we'll have a gathering of Bonsai Nuts at next year's convention in Orlando! 🙂

Katie,
I have a lot of clients that are new to the hobby shop here [site link coming soon], for economically priced pots to start out with, they have a nice selection and do a good job shipping, there definitely not as creative as the potters you’ll find on this site but it’s an option for you to explore. Happy hunting!

[EDIT] I edited out the URL, since it is not working [/EDIT]

The link goes to a site hosting landing page.

The link doesnt work. They have a face book page and even the URL listed on that doesnt work. Just gives an error.

AWESOME!!! About loathing facebook!!!

I, as a social experiment, seeing the gradual decay of many cognitive and intuitive faculties of “the common person”, decided to “turn my back”/ignore/NOT utilize social media OR pop culture, OR anything but “word-of-mouth” news.

I started when my Oldest son was still in Utero, and never looked back.. he turns 11 this month.

Good for you!

🤓

;)
I'm totally in agreement about loathing Facebook.

However, I don't get the logic behind only consuming news obtained by word-of-mouth. Dude, if you only get your news via word-of-mouth, guess where you're actually getting a lot of your news from? Facebook! Because people share by word of mouth the same garbage that they read & shared on their Facebook wall without any fact-checking whatsoever. To be well informed, you really have to consume news directly from news organizations. Otherwise, you're just playing the telephone game and receiving a view of the world distorted by the biases, misunderstandings, and faulty memory recall of everyone that the story passed through on its way to you. At a minimum, read your local newspaper to be informed on what's happening in your town. Better yet, regularly read at least 3 news sources with different viewpoints in order to be able to separate what's fact from what's speculation/bias attributable to the authors and/or their editor.

Ok, now I can get down from my "civic duty to be a well-informed citizen" soapbox.

Below is some on-topic content regarding where to obtain bonsai pots:
  • As far as sources on the Internet go, I've bought ceramic pots from Bonsai Outlet, Dallas Bonsai, and Etsy (the shop on Etsy that I've purchased from is called Potfriendsworld). I've also bought plastic training pots on Amazon.
  • Outside of the Internet, I've bought pots at regional bonsai shows, The Flower Market (Kurt Smith's store), local bonsai club swap meets, a local pet store that sells a few cheap Chinese bonsai pots, and even an antique mall that happened to have a couple of pots on hand. I've also taken a shallow container from a big box store that was sold for cacti/succulents and modified it to add drainage holes by drilling with a diamond hole saw bit.

Oh I get it, entirely.. i have to actually keep myself informed NOW.. because I don’t talk to anyone! 🤣...(the “never looked back” was MORE aimed at social media”)

During my “complete news embargo years”... I noticed something, I would still catch “local news” on the 30-40’s swing station from time to time.. and THAT news seemed to actual matter.. pertain to my daily life... I also noticed that about elections during those years... (I would still obviously inform myself BEFORE voting on anything.. or that’s just ludicrous) but I realized that the LOCAL events and election platforms ACTUALLY changed/altered/made a difference in my day-to-day activities.. not that I don’t vote.. just never saw too much of any effect, up here in da’woods, of MOST “big-picture/deal” voting platforms. I still DID let my voice be heard.. just an observation.

🤓

Yeah, I bet you folks about FB Buying pots is all I do there it’s another tool.

As far as news goes I have ten sites I use. FB is not one of them. Weeding out the bull puckey is a major effort. I actually used Allsides.com rating to understand who’s who in the spectrum nationally to help.

Btw: I forgot.. just a tad off pot topic and I apologize, was gonna mention it in my pot post above… there’s a guy that shows up on FB auctions who makes the very best heavy duty tool roll I’ve encountered….

Hi there, that web site is not long active? Does it also have another name by chance? I'd sure like to see it.

The tool roll is stunning. I couldn't find a website for him but I found his email associated with a book? You mentioned that you have ten site that you use. Do you care do share them? I'd be very interesting. I will definitely buy the tool roll. I keep my Felco tools indoors but too many tools sit in a caddy outdoors and it's not the place for them! Thank you very much for sharing. Katie

Have gotten some good ones from Bonsai Vision/Saint George, UT. Also many to see on EBay and Matt Ouinga who posts there. Also hope to get from Sarah Rayner, Vicki Chamberlain.

Some of us have local clubs of more decent folks fortunately.
Some really lovely pots at reasonable prices and big prices for the sophisticated grower. Thank you for sharing this.

Hi TinyArt, you're not too far from me. I didn't know there would be a convention next year in Orlando. How do I learn more about it? I'd love to post pictures of our orchids...It's something we really know...This is still all so new to me but I can't stop reading. I can't wait to get some plants. Have you visited Artisan Nursery in Thonotosassa? That's going to be our first bonsai field trip...Hopefully this weekend. Am wanting to buy several pre-bonsai trees and am looking for one tree already to grow indoors. Thank you for reaching out.

Hmm, I bought the tool roll on FB 99 cent bonsai. Haven’t seen Frank on board for a bit. He‘s on FB though. You might try shooting him a message.

Actually only about 3 Bonsai tools needed for basics but work better than regular common use tools. It's just so trees look better.
Which 3 tools are needed for basics that work better than common use tools? It's something I really don't know yet. My husband has a large assortment of tools but I tend to keep my things much nicer and neater. Thank you.

Gosh…. For me to start with that would be a really decent pair of scissors, a good diagonal cutter and diagonal tweezers…. I don’t like straight ones, but I’m an outlier.

But I’m not one to be afraid of properly grinding down the tips of one of my wire cutters to make these work best for bonsai! You don’t need these until you wire anyways. 😉.

Best

Thank you HorseloverFat for listing your favorite dealers for pots. Potsfriendsworld has some great pots and I'd seen Bonsai Outlet...They sure have a lot! Dallas Bonsai seems to have let their website laps

Thank you Bonsai Obsessed for taking the time to share. It seems they've let their website lapse but maybe it's temporary.
