I planted this Japanese maple a few years ago and it really took off. It gets full sun so I guess that really helps. This winter I did a hard prune to try and give it a better shape. Since it has started growing in the last few weeks I noticed today that it's growing just like before. At the ends of the branches it has a big group of new growth going out in all directions. What is the best way to continue pruning it? Should I cut to only two new buds at the groups?

What's your goal? Bonsai?
Not really. I guess I was thinking of a "bonsai" look out in the yard. It never really grew like I thought it would. It has stayed shorter and wider.

Hack Yeah!

Search niwaki if you haven't already, but I assume it's the same process as bonsai, cut change direction, keep foliage tighter
