Among the work that I am currently doing in my bonsai garden, I recently added a large ceramic container paired with a rain chain to collect and hold water. The reflective quality of the water really helps add a cooling and soothing effect specially on a hot summer day. I added a couple of dwarf water lilies to create a simple and beautiful water garden.

Very nice. How are you going to keep the skeeters down?

You might want to add a submersible pump to create a fountain. The moving water will solve the mosquito issue and the sound of the water does make a sunny patio feel a bit cooler.

Thanks Jim! I am working through that. Yes most likely I will be adding some sort of pump. Luckily I have an outlet not far from it so it won't be too difficult. Fish of course would solve the problem as well but it adds a level of complexity that I don't want at this time.

In lieu of a water chain, we went with a water pipe. I like yours better.

I'm always impressed and interested with whatever it is that you share from your garden. must be a pleasure to walk through that nice space you have created for your trees.

Very nice set up Lance! You don't joke around when it comes to collecting rain water :D Let's just say mine is no where as efficient!

Thanks NY! Well for years I had my trees on benches but no surroundings to view them properly. I got tired of it, and having the luxury of having a bit of space around me I simply had no excuse.

Very nice. You could do a mosquito dunk in the water if you wanted to leave it still. Lance, that's a nice system, I have several in different locations.
Nice photography, and a beautiful yard and setting, thanks for letting us in!

Between you and Brian, I have a HUGE case of yard envy. What a well constructed and thoughtful area to view beautiful trees and relax. The rain chain and container are perfect accessories to an already wonderful space. Man, I wish I had a flat yard!!

Time for another visit Dave!
The new yard is taking a lot of getting used to. More sun, more wind, more water! Less fence!
Serg, I dig it! Hope to visit one day.

Looks great and no need for a pump! We use something called Mosquito Dunks and they work great and are safe. My Wife wraps one with a stone in cheese cloth to keep it in one piece and submerged. We use one and put in a fresh one every 6 weeks or so. Enjoy and thanks for sharing http://www.lowes.com/pd_92460-1643-MODU1_0__?productId=3047384 ;)

Thanks Mike! That is my twin trunk arakawa. First year I have placed it in full sun all year. So far no leaf scorch whatsoever. I knew they were more resistant to it but didn't know to what extent. So I decided to see for myself.

Yeah but then you have these ugly little doughnut thingies floating in your pool. The pump/fountain combo is aesthetically pleasing.
