Sometimes it's the POT

You can do it. It looks intimidating but let me guarantee you in the world of branch-bending that wouldn't even be considered that big. Just wrap it tightly with raffia first so you don't split it. The tighter that bend, the better. If you have never done a big bend before, take it to a club meeting and make it a group project :) You can always use rebar for leverage if you need to, but it honestly doesn't look that bad.

Consider a heavy duty pipe clamp if you need to, with clamping blocks to protect the wood.

Check this out for some extreme bending. You aren't talking about doing anything half as dramatic.
If I needed rebar to bend a half inch of wood (unless it was "that kind" of wood;)) I'd shoot myself.
Why, I have busted wood WAY bigger than that.

The rebar helps by giving you leverage, and more control. So that you WON'T bust it!

I might consider losing that branch entirely... turning it into a Jin... and embracing the literati that is screaming to come out.

I don't know. I think the lower section of the trunk is too straight, and the branch on the right is too thick to carry it off. You'd have to remove the branch on the right, and then I think you'd end up with a pretty uninteresting tree. My opinion.

If SATAN ever created ANYTHING..... it is RAFFIA !!!!!

Okay, a few hours and more profanity than exists in HELL, I am DONE FOR TODAY!

Sure, you'll suggest more torture for me but this is where it is NOW.

As I bent Mr. Bigbranch, I heard,........Crrrrrrrrrrrrrrcccc....cc..ccc... but no... RRRRAAAACKKKK! so I think whatever was doing that MAY survive the ordeal.

But I don't think I can shove it any farther without finding that last RRRRAAACCKKKK syllable.

Maybe later... but sure as shit not NOW!

That is FIVE mm wire and even though it looks to be a ...tether... it goes all the goddam way down the branch and the END .....IS.... a tether.

I think it looks MORE like what I want, but goddammit, it is now time for BEER !!

I'm sure there is a PROPER bonsai beer, but I am gonna use Miller High Life no matter what ANYONE sez.

Now.... tell me where it's all fugged up. o_O

I sure hope Peter Tea is drinkin TOO! 0228171358.jpg 0228171358a.jpg 0228171359.jpg

More CLIPPING is in the offal....er...offing, so go easy on that cuz it's gonna happen

i agree.

And that branch ain't on the RIGHT. It's in the front. Sweeping TO the right.

NO! It STAYS !!!

And I'll shoot to defend that.

I like that tree. To me, it looks real and less contrived.:)

I'm kinda wondering which way the apex moves. Towards the front or towards the back?

I might prefer the other side as the front. That would fix that awkward "front branch moving right" problem.

This will be a good tree to work on with Peter Tea.

He may show you how to put some curve in the straight section of the trunk!

(Bring rebar!)

It would be nice to see more pics from different sides.

That's part of the problem with trying to design in two dimensions :) One of the reasons why I like the earlier design is (what I believe to be) the back branch between the primary on the left, and the secondary on the right. That back branch is critical to the earlier design - it wouldn't work without it. But is it really there? Or is that foliage just an optical illusion of a descending branch from somewhere else?

I can't see anything with these pics. Can you take some more that show detail? I have an idea about the front branch but I'll wait.....

Actually he likes it as is.
Said that tightened branch is exactly as far as he would take it.

But then, too he was holding the thing and able to turn it, tilt it, and see all of it.

Other than some minor nipping, I think I'm done.
:)

He also asked where I found black raffia as he said some folks were painting theirs black.
JoAnns crafts was where I got it.
