New tree on the benches. Unclear what variety it is, but the flower color is pink and the bark exfoliates heavily, leaving a beautiful blotchy coloration on the trunk.

Someone needs to remind me to stop buying such big trees. The box I‘m repotting it is is on the back bench.

The tree was slabbed two years ago and planted essentially as a giant cutting. Once I cleared all the muck from below the tree, I was able to examine the work after two years. All of the large downward growing roots were cut clean at the nebari with a chain saw. It was reported to me that there were no roots of any kind after the work was done. Pretty amazing - I’ve heard of this kind of think being done with Crape Myrtle, but I think this is the first time I could study it in detail.

You make me feel a little better about myself. Am running out of space but interested in buying another one. The different between us is you have time to work on yours and I don't.

That is nice bark! It makes me think it is one of the L. indica X faurei hybrid cultivars, which have better mildew resistance.

I hope so. The crape Myrtle I’ve had in the past have been susceptible to powdery mildew and white fly.

My crapes are usually the last to leaf out. Its not surprising you're ahead of us, but I AM surprised yours is already in leaf.

Scott, that tree house is pretty cool! You gonna take it with you?

I love the tree house, but it’s not very transportable. I might have to build a new one at the next place.
