I was going to repot a tree today, that I really shouldn't do until summer, but I was bored. I had everything ready, and it started to rain. I guess the bonsai Gods were trying to tell me something. So we're having an exciting Saturday night here watching a 1994 Eagles concert on TV..................

Got phone calls from my sons, phoned my Mum and my sister, mailed some stupid things to a couple of friends, talked with my very special friend.

Lucky enough to have a garden : spent most of the day outside, but the wind was cold.

So quiet: no cars or almost none, only the song of birds and the laughs of my neighbours' kids.

So peaceful ;0)

Vine Maple Forest repot. Need to put more movement in the branches, and oh those long internodes!View attachment 289896
I have had luck keeping the internodes short by placing my Vine maples in full sunlight, the species really doesn’t like the scorching august heat so I only move it to shade for a short period of time.

This is an unwanted seedling I collected from a generous neighbors garden a few years ago. The leaves are about the size of a quarter this time of year.

Definitely a "pre-bonsai” but it is nice to have a tree to experiment with. I am treating it with Pyraclostrobin this year, a fungicidal compound that has good peer reviewed research that shows it has plant stress inhibition properties arising from it interference of the ethylene metabolism. My goal is simply to prevent sun damage to the foliage, which I see on landscape vine maples in my neighborhood every year.

My last repot for the spring season. I call this Pacific Silver Fir “The Ogre” because it’s big and gnarley and eats me alive every time I try to move it. I had to have my wife help me wrestle it onto the cart to move it to the garage for the repot. Out of the box and into a big mica pot. The only one I had that could fit it. 8EF600C6-CE90-4794-815B-F414AF751DC6.jpeg 69CD91CD-41F8-4C4A-8B56-18360F024FC0.jpeg

So this is a Picea Glauca Albertiana Conica that I got during Christmas as one of your bog standard xmas trees. This tree had been repotted and a lot of branches removed previously.

I made some Jin and wired the branches.

Had this Pyracantha for quite a while so thought I'd make a sort of sinuous raft style with it. Will see how it goes....
