Not much to look at here but a Hawthorn of some sort dug at my sister in law's this spring and an amur maple we were getting ready to dispose of on a jobsite earlier this spring. Both are doing well in 8822 budding and leafing like crazy. No long term plans for either yet. Just trying to grow roots right now.20200614_152743.jpg20200614_152743.jpg20200614_152806.jpg

Cool thread!
I’ll contribute with my first trees I purchased. From Lowe’s, and 1 Amazon mail order baby nana my mom gifted me.
I think they are good representations of what a newb like me can grab up for cheap and enjoy the growth into this hobby!

Sea green juniper. Anyone else notice how much these things smell like cat piss when pruned?

I’ve had these trees the longest - over a year now. Maybe not great, but have provided much practice and enjoyment.
Enjoy the grow. 🙃

Good thread! I’ve been at this about three years. Every time I look at a tree I decide I have no idea what I’m doing, so I think I still qualify as a COVID newbie. Four trees attached. A jade that was bought from NE Bonsai, a JM from the same place. Both were bought potted so I’m really just their caretaker. I’m working through learning how to Create ramification. They’re not at the refinement stage but I’m just trying to practice the skills and gain some understanding of the horticulture. Then there are the Ficus and Shefflera. Both were pre-bonsai from Bonsai West. Potted and ‘styled’ (as much as you can in under a year). The shefflera was potted this time last year. Sort of a twin-trunk? I don’t know. I’m letting it grow, though it needs a haircut. The ficus was just picked up this March and I potted and styled it a few weeks ago. No idea if i did it right, but I like the way it looks. That counts for something, right? I cut the growing tips to try and get some back-budding on this one. I’ll take all of the help I can get!

Hello, another newb here. I’ll share my works in progress. All need plenty of more time to develop obviously. All comments and suggestions are welcomed. Here is a Bougainvillea from a local nursery.

Before and afters of some of the trees I've collected my first collection season this passed February all survived collection so far just letting them grow out this year. Others just trees purchased at a nursery and practiced on. Got a few azaleas I've butchered. Learning everyday especially patience.

Love your attitude - open to help and feedback but happy in what you've achieved 😁

Well done for keeping the collections alive! Always curious where people collect from (never collected so just finding out about it) - where did you get yours? :)

This is going SO well here!!!

I could almost cry at how truly beautiful these “positively-charged” vibrations and correspondences are. Shared knowledge, experience and understanding are truly a sight to behold.

I know I’ve said it before, but knowledge is the ONE thing we can share with others without depleting our own “supply” (maybe love ;) )

I’ll “keep it going”.. still real raw... another “rescue” collection from yesterday. (Receding floodwaters and all)

Lovely comment! Yeah I think it's just nice to see where some of us are at! Hopefully we'll keep updating and see progressions 😁 Also lovely that some of the more experienced members have offered the critique that we might not be able to give yet.

I LOVE your use of the word 'volatile' - tickled me! Also, in the second picture it looks like a very interesting shape...😂

Really interesting project - looking forward to seeing how it gets on, fingers crossed it lives for you!
