Another Japanese Maple- what to do

Last update for me in 2016! Along with most of my maples, this one is likely to have a board screwed to it's bottom and placed in a wooden grow box. The transition from the heavy trunk section to the next needs to thicken and the roots, though coming along, still need a lot more development. I suspect the sacrifice branch will stay for at least another year or two....but it will help the wounds from both past and future carving heal faster, too;).
