Another Larch (Tamarack)

I'm not saying there are major issues but this is what I see. The apex has some very thick "L" shaped branches that need to be removed and regrown with some finer less straight ones. Further down there is a noticeable "V" set of branches. One of them needs to be removed. There is also what appears to be a bar branch situation going on behind them. That will need to be addressed. I like the tree a lot and with a little work and time it could be extremely nice. Nice work so far.

Thanks Vin, you made some really good points. Some of what you mentioned should be fixable when wiring in the spring. There are definitely too many branches and I plan on eliminating 1 or 2 when wiring. One thing I learned this season is to be careful with unrestricted growth on Larch. The apex was allowed to get 2-3ft of growth and it got too thick to the point that I won't be able to put any movement in there. I agree that I will need to cut it back further to grow some finer growth up top. I might also cut all but the lowest two branches way back and regrow some finer stuff. Larch seem to progress fast and can really put on a lot of growth in one season so if it will help the tree there is no reason not to do the cut back.
