Bonsai Nut Spring Box Store Challenge

I hope by then I'll be finished with the extra sides jobs I have taken on and be able to participate, I had a blast during the last one and look forward to this one if I have the time.

Brian

is there any inconvenience for me in the southern hemisphere to get in the challenge? Is the wiring and chopping time at least non deadly for the tree?

Max, we want you to participate! That's what the challenge is all about. The wiring and chopping are decisions only the participants can make. Some will be more aggressive than others.

Please don't buy anything yet. There will be parameters to follow in the guidelines.
our timings will be a bit off... buying already full into autumn. I will look around none the less... keep me posted, please.

Two request for BNut when the rules get posted:
1) Make it sticky till the contest is over
2) Moderate it so we don't get a bunch of garbage posted and water down the thread. Maybe let Vin moderate it if that is an option.

Might be a trivial question, but is that $50USD? so about $60CDN? Seriously, everything is more expensive up here north of the border.

If this was answered at one time or another, please forgive the redundancy.

For participants in high cost or non-U.S. areas, there will be a little leeway. I have relatives in Bowmanville that can verify the cost if needed.

I was looking at the stock used in the past challenge, and what you guys are picking up for 7/8/9$ costs here anywhere from $20-25. Not even kidding... unless of course it's year end.

If we are still rockin non-conifers this is definitely going to be a challenge!

I must thank you Vin for giving me an excellent excuse to purchase more material! My wife said I can buy anything if you say so! Ok, she didn't state it exactly, but since the last one, it's kind of implied!

I'd like to see rules that are quite loose so everyone can participate!
Its awesome that this thing is crossing so many borders, time zones, even oceans!

The greatest challenge is going to be finding material! I can't wait to get those odd looks from the store staff! My goal is to get kicked out, that's when I'll know I'm looking hard enough!

Should tell her it's the JWP challenge. But price limit is $1000.00

I have the same problem as Milehigh. The local nurseries are stocked with almost all 5 gallon material. There are no 3 gallons and some 1 gallons but they are so small it seems pointless. I was wondering if everyone is having the same problem or it was just in my area. From my perspective, going to 5 gallons would make this contest much more enjoyable. I could get good material at the local nursery and not have to drive all over So Cal searching for a 3 gallon. Something to consider Vin before finalizing the rules.

Pushing the pot size to 5 gallons shouldn't be an issue. However, the dollar limit should remain at no more than $50. Keep in mind this is a challenge and finding inexpensive nursery stock that has bonsai potential is part of the fun. Personally, I will not be spending more than $35 if I can help it. Even if I have to move to a 1 gallon pot.

Definitely keep the $ amount low. Pursuing the bargain is half the fun!
