citrus clumping style?

i recently discover this clumping style in bonsai.. does this work for any tree or it has to be specific tree ? for example can i plant 3 citrus together and over time they become one? also can they be any age? or it has to be seedling age?

Should work most trees/shrubs. Beginning with seedling planted with trunks held together(several years)until roots/trunks become joined works easiest before roots develop woodiness. If ground planted giving fastest growth joining would be faster.

Yes. All species should fuse together given enough growth and enough time. Thick bark/rough bark species take longer. Citrus should be no problem.
