I have a couple of strange questions. 🤪

1. Has anyone here said "to hell with it" and planted a bonsai tree, either in their yard or in nature, and just let it go? Would they grow into a more "normal" tree or would they always be stunted and strange looking compared to unmolested trees?

2. Are there any tree specialists that specialize in growing trees to be HUGE, like meant to be the centerpiece of a town square or something like that? Anti-bonsai? I don't mean just letting it grow; I mean actively trying to make the tree as HUGE as possible?

1) they would just grown into a normal sized tree, unless it was a dwarf variety

2) yes there are tons of places that specialize in established, or mature trees. Like the Xmas trees that end up being centerpieces in large cities. A job that I just finished had a 40,000.00 coast live oak planted

1. Yes. I do that often. If a tree is just not going to work...or I don’t want to work with it....I plant it out in my forest wooded area. The trees establish themselves in the ground and grow as big as the species can over time. A bonsai tree is.....a regular tree. I also just let trees grow in a box often. Just water, fertilize and ignore. The trees grow quite well when I don’t fiddle with their life. Some in a box I chop and then I let every new branch grow wildly, no pruning for several years, to develop a gnarly trunk.

My trees kept in a box are all former forest sticks....now with trunks.

A good 30-40’ tall with a huge Trunk, i didnt Get to spend too much time with it because it was at the very end of a 2 year job and I was on my way to another project.

It was for a un-named trillion dollar tech company in Sunnyvale, CA (silicon valley). Needed a 5k/hour crane to drop it in :p
