Hello all,

Last year, I had the opportunity to dig up a couple of trees in a neighboring county -- long story short, the Trident Maple seems healthy and shows some promise (I think) but is fairly problematic in its own right -- it has some character, but also lots of aesthetic problems, wondering if any of you had any thoughts or advice!

The maple has the 'start' of a nice root base, and seems to be very healthy -- unfortunately, right from a couple inches above the root base, there's a very large knurl/reverse taper -- my thinking is that this could be improved by carving it into a lightning strike, or a hollow or an oval uro, or something of the like. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated!

Didn't post any major pictures of the branches above because honestly I'm willing to trunk chop and restart those completely -- though if anyone thinks I should post those, let me know.

You'll need to chisel though that knot...

Needs some root work too.

Trunk chop seems uneccesary at this point.
