Hello,

I was wondering if Ilex vomitoria back buds on old wood or not. I was doing a little work on one today and it has some lower branches that were sticking up and noticed they are very fragile....oops. Trying to keep this guy pretty small and hope I did not just lose my lowest branch forever.

Thanks

Aaron

They do back bud well...one of the most prolific IMHO. I've collected a lot and most are chopped down to a stump w/o any leaves and in no time, they all are covered in foliage.

Great, exactly what I wanted to hear. Those branches are some of the most fragile I have ever come across. If they are not in almost the right spot you want them you might as well cut them off.....

I've bent a few by "V" notching at the bend site. They heal well too...try it before cutting, if they break (being brittle) then cut and wait for it to bud ;).

Next time you get a chance Poink, I would love to see one of you ilex if it's not to much trouble.

I'll try to snap a few pics tomorrow (if I can get to it) and post. Some of the ones I'll show you were just collected 6 weeks, 3 months, and 4 months ago.

Sounds good to me. I will finish up on mine and take a picture, mine is probably a twig compared to yours......wow that sounds kind of odd.....haha

I re-read that and it just sounded to funny to edit out.
