Just when I said the other day, no more projects...I can't stop this itch I have for one more

Can't wait to get two projects up and running with the tridents...going to see how easily the ground grown whip goes together...before I order my next trident for the other project. Leaning toward a sapling as Adair had first suggested...with the second one. To just see what I end up with...but, then wonder...what I would get with same size material...with these two different sized pumice. Check out that extra large pumice! ? which will give much movement to young growing roots!!! Weather looks like it may allow my first project tree to be shipped. This project...helps me with not feeling so bad over the quince that I lost. Sure ten years sounds like a long time. But...as Jonas said...in time I will be removing the plastic in stages revealing the roots...making it a fun project indeed.

Your enthousiasm is inspiring! :D I'm looking forward to the progression!
Thanks! I am a sucker for neagari...being told for the desired look to be done right...ten years. I didn't even skip a beat. Love the photo I am using for inspiration. I want a good size specimen when done and said. Just looking at the extra large pumice...thinking of developing roots in it...is just so cool! I see pictures of really nice neagari...and don't get me wrong...delicate neagari is just as lovely...but this project...along with time frame...is going to be a statement piece on my bench...or at least I hope so.

I hope ones try new things in this hobby of ours...that takes them onto a deeper indepth place on their journey. That...really fullfills this love of bonsai of ours.

Thick or fine roots... It certainly evokes a totally different feeling. Clinging to survival, rather than flowing and thriving, if that makes sense...
Ten years is indeed a very long time! But I think bonsai enthousiasts can find something to be excited about every day if you look at your trees diligently :)

Dude...can not wait to share profession pictures! Found something more ideal than drainage pipe which what I was given was very heavy gauge. To add movement in the roots so I can make a lovely cascade when complete. And not straight up in the air roots. ?

Think I will start a new thread...with photos of my putting it together. Possibly this week!!! Just waiting on my tree to ship. Hope it got mailed out this week. I don't like to pester...this spring weather is crazy though.

Finally the long term forecast looks like I can have my trees shipped Monday. So ready to get started. Seems like its been in a limbo.
Need to make room in greenhouse. I have a feeling it will take up some room. I have books and pots along one wall. May clean off my bakers table I put out there to have drawers. And put my tools away instead of spread out open on roll cloth...and whatever else I dropped there. It seems like a catch all.

Well night temps are above freezing...so those trident should be shipped this week!!! Need to go buy another flex spout. Because the drainage pipe won't hold the bend without wiring. These keep their shape...reminds me of the boys old Kinex toys.

So excited to see the weather cooperating! These should offer the proper flexibility and staying in the position I want...to create movement in the roots to make that desired cascade look. ? Just wanting to get this project underway so it can do its thing.

Second Neagari project done...Much more aggressive with the roots. It's a trident after all...But...Still plan on waiting awhile to share this one. It may just take 15 years with the length of the flex pipe twisted about. IF...I can pull it off. It will be my favorite most likely.

I glance at it and think...WHAT WAS I THINKING o_O

IF...I can pull it off.
Why pull it, Darlene?
You can just cut along the pipe and open it in two.
The problem I can see is the accordion type of the pipe.
I think if it was smooth and flat would not cause much of a problem to separate from the roots...

Awkward to tilt to allow drainage properly until roots reach the pot...and can sit upright.

Darlene, flexible suction pipes for industrial vacuum cleaners are easy to bend and tilt. The indents are minimal, not so deep.

I was told to use drainage pipe. But you can not have it hold its bend...as does the vacuum suction pipe. We shall see where this goes...it may be epic crazy...or a bust. Honestly it was a cheap project. And...it's what I call a lazy man's project. So not really much work other than horticutural care. Worst case...it's layered off its roots. But if it works...it will be worth the risk taking.
Project #1.

I like your inspiration and determination. Reminds me of myself :)
How long is this pipe?

Thanks!
I am Scottish Irish...and a red head. So a bit of stubborn tossed in there.? I will have to measure it and get back to you. It's out in the greenhouse. Wind is crazy out there and a storm is brewing. I have chopped it. So not as long as it originally was when purchased. Easily cuts with scissors though. So can remove easily when the time comes to take off sections in small increments.

@my nellie did you ask me for the size of these? I thought someone did...but can't find the question or my reply, how odd...unless, being tired I replied to something not even my thread.

How does one measure...do you measure the pipe as to when the roots are grown it might be. Or...to the bottom of the pot to top of the flex spout for that measurement?

Yes, I asked about the length.
In fact, I was asking about the pipe on your post #71. I thought that it was the "device" you would be using.
I realize now that it was not and you are going to use the pipe in the photo above. Am I correct?
