Kennett Collection Reduction sale

The Wife and I were going to do the 1 hour or so drive until we saw the lotto type sale. I understand they need to do that but not our cup of tea :(

You need to go and make some friends in the right places. By my calculations, you've got about 6.5 weeks....

You know, your right Dave.I need to get there.Hey If I come back with an azalea or a corker pine that is fine. There will definately be some local enthusiasts to meet. That is tantalizing to say the least.

What would you prefer camping out to be first in line and finding out you're too late 10 others got you beat and then a mad sprint to the trees you picked to find that someone beat you to them?

Same here I was going to go but I'm not flying across the country to only have to hope I get a good number or to be limited in the number of trees I can buy.

Yep you identify what you want, arrive there first, get a ticket and hope you get called first. Even after all that it may not be available. I'm bummed by that...

Yea, it's definitely not worth going to guys, just have a relaxing weekend at home and I'll look after the trees. :D

Lol...it will be fun to meet many of you. Don't let that escape us.

Are they wholesalers of imported trees, or do they sell trees at retail? Never heard of the kennet collection until this thread and I'm located right up the road.

They are a privately owned collection of trees. The sale is to reduce the overall number of trees maintained there.

Spend the next 3 hours looking at hundreds of photos. Your mind will be blown. Also, Doug Paul(owner of the collection) is the only American to show in the Kokofu Exhibition--I think, like 90% sure.

There is a guy from NJ showing there this year and there have been others.

thanks for fact checking me. I knew he had/has shown, I just didn't know if he was the ONLY American. Nice to see he isn't. Who was the first, do you know?

Sounds like it could be an awesome opportunity and potentially frustrating if you miss out on the trees you were trying for. I probably wouldnt be willing to pay for any of the trees being offered at this point (still too new to the hobby), if I even could afford them, so it is pretty easy to skip it. Maybe someday I can take advantage of something like this.

All I can say is there is NOTHING that will get you more invested in the hobby and really up your game knowledge wise then becoming the caretaker of a top notch tree. If you've been successfully keeping trees in pots alive for only two years or you've been doing it for 2 decades, I wouldn't miss this event. It really is a once in a lifetime chance to get exceptional material for fractions of what they should sell for....nothing ventured nothing gained. I didn't think I was ready when I bought my first rmj yamadori...but I did anyway and I'm glad I did:).

Dave...You driving or flying up....? Maybe we need to rent a bus....LOL I wonder if I can bring a tree on a Greyhound....?

I spent the first 12 years of my bonsai obsession living a short distance from New England Bonsai Gardens...it took a few years but I eventually started spending some serious money on trees, and now I don't have any more room on my benches or any more money to spend...my daughter rides horses for a hobby:p$$$:o.

Still, the trees I bought are giving me a lot of satisfaction almost 10 years after acquiring them, and I've never regretted buying them, and, If I were within a four hour drive one way, I'd probably be there. If nothing else, I'd get to see these trees, and the trees on display(?), in person.

There are guys in the Atlanta Club who used to drive up to New England Bonsai every summer to get a piece of their annual sell down sale...I'll see if they're going:cool:.
