Newbie stubborness

Ive not been a member too long but I do see the same questions over and over. There’s lots to read and learn just gotta search a bit. Most of my google searches end in “bonsainut” like“cork bark oak bonsainut” or “soil bonsainut”, “repot maple bonsainut” etc. just because I know someone has asked the same question before me and the amount of experience and knowledge on this forum is amazing.

One really good benefit to a forum is that if someone has asked a slightly different question, just reading that peripherally related post sometimes my actual question came up on page 4 and then I don't have to ask. I like when that happens.

Lol Adam,

You just found one I think. And yeah, that went overboard sooo fast.. Someone must be on something, me thinks..

who are here with a desire to learn with humility!

I don't think anyone is expecting humility. Just decency and openess to hear other ideas would be a great start for some..

....Or SHOULD be on something, maybe....

Same here. I have been just making conversations to avoid this. Some really accepting knowledgeable teachers here.
Nah, don't worry. Nobody minds a bit of back and forth here or there. It is just when people start pulling the whole world and start dictating what part of the area is allowed to be responded to, and what not.. I personally get a little concerned with peoples sanity..

I think I just saw the reason for this thread @leatherback . Holy crap.....
Just know there are lots of us newbies who are here with a desire to learn with humility!
I found that Japanese black pine one. Dude was pissed. Lol. Oh well, it's his loss if he doesn't want additional info. I can see where he was coming from since he wanted a cut and dry answer or at least a couple with their corresponding caveats, but it was hilarious when you quoted his snippet giving an open forum to give ideas on design. He just went right off the cliff. It was like watching a Bolero thread.

And Atom, amen to humility. I'll freely admit to anyone here I know basically nothing about bonsai. But that's exactly why we are here.

I think in certain situations a certain noob realizes that they really enjoy this hobby and gets sooo caught up in the "hunt" while not even knowing the terminology yet. Not knowing the bare essence of the art. While in the beginning phases of this art alot of resources just dosen't make any sense, the noob just sees resistance in his/hers attempt to understand the culture to the point of when something as helpful as "walk away" is interpreted as push back. If the noob truly enjoys the art of bonsai and really wants to learn he/she will see the light which in turn will understand that they were being guided and didn't even know it!!! I am that noob and I sincerely apologize for any ignorant arrogant behavior that I have shown, the more i read the more you guys share the more i understand. Thanks for the advice and keep it up!!!

This is all a coverup.....do we not all have or want pet trees..........I see right through this kind of stuff🤟

Don't worry - even experienced growers get treated like crap sometimes from one particular veteran. I have been grafting trees over 25 years and was called out! I simply posted a bunch of pics and he magically floats away. The ignore button sure makes for a more pleasant experience.

Just look at the number and quality of Walter's trees and you still get people putting down the method. They're the bonsai equivalent of the flat earther syndrome.

I dont know why but @leatherback seems to rile people up. I just stumbled across another thread where he gave good advice and got exploded on haha. I see now why this thread started.

Must be my lovable ancestry coming to play. Or my lack of English skills. Havent had a class in decades so maybe I am loosing understanding of the language

English,,,,,,,it's the strange uncle of the Germanic Language family. Technically a relative but we all secretly hate it.
Dutch is better than German anyway!🤪
Ich scherze nur mit dir. Ich weiß, dass die Deutschen die Komödie verstehen können, weil ich vor etwa 20 Jahren einmal einen Deutschen lächeln sah.😜🤣

You do realize I am import German right? Born Dutch.

Oh yeah, I heard about that event. I think it was on national media "Germans ingenuity now allows a smile to show"?
Ik wist dat ik een reden had om je leuk te vinden. Ik ben een Afrikaner dus ik heb een oude Nederlandse stijl. Vraag de Duitsers waarom hun bier zo verschrikkelijk is. hahahahaha

Leatherback,

Bonsai - a hobby with no practical use.

"we grow our Bonsai for Beauty - not produce or lumber '

And it can cost unless you have extreme time [ start in teens ]
grow from seed, mine your clay, make your own pots.

"bonsai are the playthings of the rich "

Plus as seen on IBC, steal information to become an "expert"
See who had over 3000 responses and wioed off their names.
Now teaching.

See published information on soils in the 80's and what the
same experts are saying now.

Bonsai requires some Biology, Physics and Chemistyr plus
from Art - Design.
Most have no clue. Still claimimng Humic Acid is real.

Then the time factor as mentioned before.
3 to 5 years to learn how to water [ soil mix etc.]
10 years plus to study Design and the barrage of cookie
cutter trees.

It is a relaxing Hobby, 30 to 50 / 60 premium grade
efforts at 40 cm tall or wide.
Good Day
Anthony

Been there, done that. Lived near Shingwedzi for maybe half a year to a year over a period of 4 years.
Funny language, afrikaans. Almost as funny as Belgian. But better.
