Spent part of yesterday, and most of today getting all the trees into the cold overwintering house. Always a fun job, got to do reductions on some, my favorite thing to do! Last photo is the watering device I recently bought. It saves me tons of time, it's 9 gallons, and battery powered. Works great. If anybody is interested in knowing more, I'll be happy to give info...

Nice to see! You are very organized as well. One of the things I will have to put a LOT of thought in is the new yard next Spring and somehow come up will solutions based on what I know and what I will be able to do there. If you could post a link to the watering device I am certain many will like to see the details. I am going full auto-water but I might use that for the liquid fertilizers - inorganic is cool but man I use a lot of fertilizer :p

Being organized, (well ok, I'll admit to being slightly OCD) is important when space is at a premium. But the smaller the space the easier it is to keep snug.
Let me know if you ever get down this way Darlene!

Oh trust me...I sure will! Any hiking trails around you that have waterfalls? I could use that as an excuse to get out your way. That...or...maybe a bonsai class in or around your area.

Link for that watering unit - pweese ;)

sprayer

Ok here is a link to the sprayer I got to help make the watering less time consuming. I got tired of filling the watering can so many times every watering session from my rain barrels. And I can get two days out of one filling with this. Bonus, I can add fert, and even more time saved. Great for tight spaces in the greenhouse, cause the nozzle fits better than a can head. It's super easy to drag around the yard, I really like it.

Thats the pros, here are the cons. the spray is adjustable, but pretty strong, so you need to water directly down onto the soil, so as not to blow it out of the container. The hose was too short to do that, or to get very far, but we (ok, he) added a hose extension on. I may still get a softer spray wand, but I'm getting used to it. This is the third unit I got. The first one, the battery didn't work. Returned. The second one was broken in the box. Returned. This one is fine. The company sends them out with poor packaging, but they are good about taking them back till you get one that works. I asked for additional packaging on the last one, and that's what they did finally.

There are other versions of this kind of sprayer out there, most of them are made by the same company but sold by different vendors, some are more $$. There are some higher end units out there, but most are not 9 gal. Or they are super spendy.

Look up Hocking Hills, it's about 45 mins. from here, amazing place. There's a 5 mile trail around a big lake through old hardwood forests 5 mins down the road, we go there often.

I have one of these sprayers also...works great. Although....I don't use it for watering bonsai trees. I found the spray to be a little strong. In the winter I use a small hand-pump 3-gallon sprayer that can be a fine and effective spray...just the right type of droplets for watering and for reaching way back in that corner for the hidden bonsai..
You have a fabulous set-up for bonsai working!

Hocking Hills is our home away from home. Been there many of times. ;) There is discussions of going during winter break. But we have to check our son's college dual credit classes winter schedule as to if its doable. But only a short weekend...and not a long week like summer vacation.

Looks great,Judy. All of my trees are leafless and put away for the season, except for two that are a matter of days away from that stage.

Last week everything was put away except the larches which I allow to lose some "hair" before they go into the quiet room (storage facility). A few really large and clumsy boxed hardy pines and larch get put on the ground outside and are side insulated with bagged insulation. My quiet room is not as immaculate as Miss Judy's Solexx Temple of Love though.

You don't post enough, Crust:)

Nice setup you both. :)

Mine is a lot less glamorous LOL and just on shelves inside my garage. The tropicals are the only ones going in (about 20 of them full time, another 10 + several houseplants will also be in when we go below 32*C).

You guys are close to me probably. I grew up in Pataskala and now live in Granville/Johnstown area.

X2. You have some nice looking stuff in there. Would love to see more. Threads of nice trees like yours, Judy's and the many others help even out the "what direction to take this stock" threads that I am constantly posting! :)

X3 LOL....
But I have to say one thing about posting trees here recently, seems like there isn't any feedback going on these days. Gets many views, but no replies. Maybe it's just too simple to click the "Thanks" button. I'm thinking that this is too easy, maybe we should get rid of the thanks button. It becomes a bit hard to want to take the time to update threads or post new threads. If no one cares enough to even comment, what's the point? Esp. when all the threads with squabbles get all the love...
It isn't what it used to be.

Just sayin.

Ah, but my temple of love doesn't have any Crustation creations in it...(yet!) I really love the slab larch, maybe I've seen it before, but from a different angle? It's Wonderful!, but looks super heavy... I'd have to hire a sherpa...

Couldn't resist hitting the thanks button :) Your setup is awesome. I just buried my pre-bonsai in mulch up against the back of the house. I'll be putting some burlap around it as a windbreak soon. My wife just said we need a greenhouse. hmmm.... Maybe a cold house like yours would fit the bill in a couple years :)

Well,I almost did not post for fear I would be all the envy, but anyway here is my winter set-up.
