Good morning feller!

Waiting for that report!

I'm mad proud of you for hanging in that long! It only gets easier from here!

At about 19.5 hours.. the cone hadn’t fallen, but I was running low..

so I “called it” ...
some results.. but it looks like the ones that “partially glazed” last time didn’t work as well.

We readjust... and try again.. but with different pieces. 🤓521E0515-18C9-414F-9360-C13BE0BBF644.jpegEC0B3858-FC0F-4635-A028-DD432DF5812E.jpegAD521ECC-656A-4CAB-A508-9918C5DBFD99.jpegBFE9DF2B-9A42-400E-9411-F99C362803BC.jpeg

And try a run with THIS guy next.

No pyrometer yet?

Crucial. You gotta be reading your climb.

Cones melt at all?

So I wanted to completely understand my shortcomings/errors of procedure before moving on..

Inspired by conversations here on “oxidation” and “reduction” fires, I decided to do a little more investigation into fuel/air ratios...

And I’m quite embarrassed to report that I was firing almost EXACTLY “backwards”... which explains a lot..

We learn.. and learn some more.

You know the old ceramics guys can tell temperature from the color inside the kiln. I’m old but not one of those old ceramic guys 😂😂

AHAHA!! I can note DIFFERENCES in color based SOLELY on MY experiences with this kiln... but that and a dollar’ll get me a coffee.

I have this yellow circled, works, but garbage. Gotta take the battery in out or it dies.

Can't use the red x thermocouple. Gotta use the green circled one. K type. They are usually sold separately.

Like $15 for a thermocouple.
