The Lazy “Four Legged Apprentice” Thread

A lot of pooch pictures here and I don’t have one to share. I’m gone too much and would feel unbearably guilty farming it out to friends and day care. So, to fill my FOMO issue, I present to you my granddog Mochi. She’s turning 13 this year and is a great help as long as you incorporate a ball in whatever project you’re involved in. Yes, she likes her ears done. In fact, I don’t think I have ever seen her without her ears done. I think it’s a girl thing.

Still shot from my next door neighbor’s security camera. About a 400 pound black bear roaming the neighborhood. The Villages really frowns on people putting out their trash the night before pickup because of these guys. Don’t want to go on night walks unless you’re packing a high caliber side arm. You might look tasty.

This is Bassie, he’s been living in our neighborhood for a few years, and we’ve been feeding him for about 2 years. He was very skittish, but over the summer, he started making his presence known and waiting for us, at some distance, to put food out when he was hungry.

At first, we couldn’t approach him or say anything to him without him running away. But he gradually let us get closer to him - with an occasional hiss - and we started giving him wet food when we saw him. It took a few weeks of wet food, but he finally let me touch him, and now he has done a complete 180 and is one of the sweetest, most affectionate cats I’ve ever known. We initially thought he was feral, but now we think he was abandoned.

My wife is allergic, so I’ve cleaned out a spot for him in my climate-controlled woodworking shop. I plan to put up a dividing wall and section off about 100 sqft for him so he has a clean and quiet spot when I’m working out there. He has a cat door now and can come and go as he pleases, but he spends most of his time in our backyard. He is a good gardening companion. He will sit quietly near me when I'm working and hop up on my lap for cuddles whenever I take a break.

Man, I really appreciate people like you. My mom is now the feral cat mom of her neighborhood. She's got several heated boxes for the local feral cats to sleep in on these cold nights. She feeds them all too. She's been able to get a few spayed/neutered because they have been multiplying.

When people go the extra mile for animals, especially those homeless ones out in the cold, it shows something greater in that person. 🫡

We've done the same to the ones we could catch. The Humane Society will do it at a discounted price for feral cats. It all started when our beloved indoor cat had to be put down. We had a bunch of cat food left and started feeding a bedraggled looking tom cat. Then he brought his girlfriend to dinner... My husband complains about them but always asks me in the morning if I fed them....
