These three JBP are from seed planted for the the "6 year JBP from seed" competition. They have all been grown exclusively in pots (no ground) and are starting to develop nicely I think.
Repotted a Japanese maple.
The pot looks nice but a pain to repot due to the incurved sides.
Means I have to cut all round to release the tree from the pot.
Root pruning
Note that most of the remaining mass is solid wood - base of the trunk and fused lateral roots.
The new pot is around the same size. I'd like something better for this tree but hard to find.
A Japanese Black Pine in its first bonsai pot and August '23 photo during repot after removing the sacrifice branch.
The long branch top right to be shortened when the buds closest to the trunk is stronger.
Shohin JPB I’ve been growing since 2021. Started from a 2 year old seedling bought from a local grower, so it’s are 6 years old. It’s developing nice bark on the back of the trunk already. I’ll remove the sacrifice later this season. The extra supports are for the sacrifice, it was a little wobbly even with a proper tie-down.
