The Social Isolation Thread

This is hamamelis intermedia “jelena” I picked up a few weeks ago. It’s best to shop them in February to see their flowers. There are many different kinds. Not much to look at when it’s growing but winter flowers can’t be beat. Some are fragrant!!
I have one in the ground and couldn’t resist an opportunity to put one in a pot. The pot allows me to protect from brutal weather that can destroy the flowers although my yard version tolerated 14 F. -1 F did them in. Blooms can last 6 weeks or more.
Getting ready to do the deed. I probably won’t prune it too drastically to allow the foliage to push roots.

Repotted this Virginia Creeper... movement in the trunk is hard to capture. View attachment 290062View attachment 290063
On your clump: I see a guy wire pulling two of the trees together. What you REALLY need are some chop sticks pushing the trunks apart!

Three of the trunks are virtually vertical. They shouldn’t be. One, the biggest, can be, but the others should be leaning out away from the biggest.

OK kiddies, everyone can go outside and play, but don't leave the yard!

isolation has me messing with some more projects, digging neglected Trees Etc. I’ll keep posting em up, the good the bad and the ugly.
First is a couple of tridents. Started these in my bathroom years ago over the winter. They have been in the ground getting chopped and forgotten. scars need clean up And then just needs to run wild. The clump isn’t completely fused on one side. forgot I put it on a CD! The tallest trunk got chopped to the lowest bud, still very high up. will play the wait and see game now.

Been using my time at home to try to save a dying/dead hinoki. Obviously if dead my efforts are wasted by I have the time so might as well try. There are a few green parts left that don't seem to be browning. "Built" a poor mans green house to keep up temps and humidity as well as reduce the light levels.

More just for fun projects with stuff I started from seed over the past few winters. Zelkova seedlings got repotted along with some Japanese maples. The zelkovas will be brooms. The j. Maples have good movement and some low buds which are always welcomed!
