Sorry about the Jin loss :( The tree still looks stunning though!
Thanks I plan to glue then screw it back in place.
I was tightening, raising and twisting the tie down wires together when the pliers lost grip.
Need to start the shari again and thin aggressively next go round.

Pinching back the growth on my @Cajunrider bald cypress. View attachment 598675

I assume now is a good time of year to remove all the growth you don't want?

Mine is covered in growth all up and down the trunk, but I want the growing happening in the branches I'm building.

I know it's super hard to see, but this is the most recent pic until I pull it out and get a better one.

Work on a dwarf Alberta spruce I got at @Maples N More Nursery. First attempt at real wiring and it’s harder than I thought but still looks decent, still not sure about the lower branch if I keep it or not. View attachment 598738View attachment 598739

That is so much better than most first attempts, including mine. The wiring on mine is a real mess. Really nice work!

Here's my smaller one that I've never touched other than initial root work and potting like 3 or 4 years ago. I've just been letting it gain strength ever since. I did pinch off the growing tips this spring on the more vigorous branches to try to get a little back-budding.

Thanks I appreciate the compliment, that’s a nice spruce looks full and healthy

Time to start pinching again. Second flush of new leaves. Also doing a partial defoliation on some of the more mature JMs. I never get tired of seeing these tiny apricot leaves come out. All the JMs are in full shade now, so watching internode length closely. We are already at 95 degrees and 106 heat index here in central Florida so the JMs have to be well shaded till they have all their leaves hardened off. My tridents and rubrums can handle the heat.

Pictures are Deshojo, Shindeshojo and a no name Acer Palmatum.

Today I decided to create a juniper over rock.
As you can see I already had the lava rocks I intended to glue to create "the rock". I also had a suitable juniper, I intended to sit in the middle of the rock......(as in the 2nd pic) and wire their roots to it, covering them with keto soil and moss.

So I begun glueing the rocks:

Then deployed the roots of the juniper over the rock, and wired them:

After that , keto and moss to finish:

I still have to fine-tune it, adding some more junipers in the base, but it was enough for a morning session

I worked on a privet that I got from the discount table at the nursery. The root ball was like a rock.
I removed a massive amount of roots and cut back to the lowest buds.

This spring it sent several shoots. The base is promising.

Today I chose the trunk line and did some wiring.
