Hi everyone,

I’ve been working in a new accent plant, just for experimenting. It is a native plant from Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. It grows up to 2 meters, but it mainly remains as a small bush. It is called mashua, (Tropaeolum tuberosum) and it produces some small tubers like a long potato, but in different colours, yellow, orange, red, and purple.

It is about 1 month old, but it has started to produce leaves. It normally has some small red-orange flowers.

Hope you like it.

Update

Hi everybody,

Here is an update, my Mashua-accent-plant was attacked by my girlfriend’s pet, a rabbit. She chewed several leaves and buds. Here is a picture of the plant, as you may see it is not as lush as it should be. Also there is a picture of the attacker; however, don’t let her fool you with her sweet face and charming appearance, she would eat your accent plants, if she had the chance.

Fortunately, it has produced new buds, so it will recover nicely in a few weeks…. And I’m still waiting for it to flower.
