Why is that? And what do you have to do w/ them?

If you have a tall cascade pot and a below the bottom of the pot cascade tree and you want to winterize it in the pot, you have to build a box that will allow the pot to be encased in some sort of mulch while allowing the tree and pot to be suspended high enough so as to not break or distort the lowest portions of the cascading tree. In our climate here in Michigan with the uncertainties of weather, if the pot is not mulched and is out in the weather, there is a greater risk it will break.

With the tree in the pot, the pot cannot be laid on its side without killing the tree by denying it water. The only alternative is to remove the tree from the pot and put the tree in some sort of mulch on its side so as not to damage the cascading branch.
