SHHHHH............

I wonder if drawing a comparison to owning seasonably-appropriate stands and owning the right shoes with EVERY outfit would work...

Great, 'cause mama needs a new pair of shoes...

Thanks again Al, really appreciate the insight.

Another great tree and thread. This Exhibition is really bringing some great stuff to the forum table!

I know! Gonna need a bigger truck!

I'm not going, I met Jim Osborne from GNOBS on his way through Birmingham and he's taking it on up.

best of luck. your tree is beautiful

Good to know; never have found much on that cultivar. It's developed well in the time since you brought it over 10 years ago!!!

Impossible to know by only looking, but the 2007 Bay Island Bonsai show gallery had 2 J. maples that had branching, barking (or lack thereof), and coloring that were very similar to mine: http://bonsaiboon.com/images/photos/bib/2007/bib_exhibit_2007.html (third photo, in aqua pot with birds, and 7th photo) Always wondered if they were the same cultivar.

thanks, eric

That looks like a shishigagashira to me. (bird pot)

Very nice Brian!

I will try to offer constructive criticism though I really like what you are working with:

(1) The elements IN THE PHOTO are too heavy, too crowded. That's a big accent for that tree. I am sure (in the final display) you will have that accent forward and much further from the bonsai. I would consider trimming it slightly because right now it is visually overpowering (to me) particularly relative to the slab.

(2) Without going overboard, can you open up the foliage so you can define the layers (a little) and reveal the trunkline (a little more)? Because the foliage is so thick, the tree appears flatter than if you could see into the tree and see more of the internal structure. I know, easier said than done, particularly with maples...

Good luck!
