and you had a climate controlled green house with different rooms, what species that you can't keep now, would you like to have........for me

1. Japanese White Pine
2. Pemphis
3. California Juniper
4. Needle Juniper
5. White Cedar

keep it green,
Harry

Good thread Harry!

For Me:

Japanese Maple (I can grow them here but it is very difficult)
White Pine
Prunus Mume

I'd probably say:

1. California Juniper

2. Japanese White Pine

3. Larch

As for the latter two, I hear they don't grow well in my area. Though, I have some small ones that have been growing vigorously for me the last two seasons, so maybe they should be off the list.

FIGURES!!!..............No "D" trees:D

that may be... tho unless they simply can't take the cold, it doesn't get that cold here, then we can grow them. I know Daniel has some Sierra junipers (i know they are different). For most junipers including the RMJ we replace the foliage with Shimpaku to give it a better growing experience and look. RMJ competes well with Cali juni anyways for style :p

ohh.... and we can grow Larch :p :p :p :p

They can take the cold that you have. But what they cannot take is the lack of sunny days. Over here, the sky is blue almost year around.
How much sun do you guys have over there....may be 14 days in a year?:)

lol the rain is a tactic we use to keep the rest of ya'll away... and the summers are Sunny... I can grow bougies outside and they love it.... so I'm guessing they would do just fine....

Oh ... and we can grow Larch :p ;)

I know of quite a few really, really high quality California junipers here in the Portland area....the trick to keeping them alive in the PNW is getting rid of ALL native soil....That goes for all junipers, then no need to graft to make them happy:D
