A Valentine's Day flush of blooms... shared to its actual thread. But thought to share here too. Love the blooms on this one.

Well, this Jaboticaba is not mine (yet!), but for inspiration that's how big they can grow in a pot here in the tropics.
The proud owner of this tree is a guy called Ney (in the picture).

New member here, and I thought I'd share a couple of my tropical bonsai. First a Jade (had a bad run in with a squirrel breaking the pot last fall...so not quite back to it's former glory):




Next up a small schefflera forest after pruning:



Finally my future bonsai, named Uncle Keith. My mom received this ficus when my uncle passed away about 20 years ago, and it was about this tall (roughly 5'). She grew it to about 8' tall and it was a wild mess. I had to rent a U-Haul to get it to my house. I'm slowly pruning it down in size. I'm hoping in about 10 years I'll have it at a nice and tidy 2' tall with some decent branch structure down low and that nice thick trunk, but it's an experiments so I guess we'll see how it goes.

At least I can try making one as big as that one!
In fact it is not so difficult. One can buy big Jaboticabas in regular nurseries, chop them down really hard, and they will happily sprout all over the old wood.

And conversely, up here you can buy ENORMOUS pines, spruces, Elms and birches in every common nursery!

Gotta work on that Zip-Line to South America... Columbia is gonna be PISSED!
