Wooho!!!! Wanted to let everyone know that the Rim has re-opened! (Wish there was an emoticon doing the "happy dance".)

It is not a temporary opening, it is reopened at it's usual hours of 10-4pm (except Thursdays). They will be running it at a "Basic" level... which means they will be open, but will not be spending money on advertising, lectures, or special displays off-site.

Still it's exciting, because I missed it dearly. I hope to get out these this weekend sometime. :)

Kindest regards,

Victrinia

Oh duh... I just remembered I'll be there Saturday because the Seattle club is having it's annual auction there this Saturday. If you are in the PNW it's not to be missed! :D

This is actually more than great news.. It is somewhat rejuvinating my faith about balance in society and the world..I think of it like this... When this collection closed.. I thought, how could one of the greatest display collections of bonsai in the United states close....Where is the "quality of life" in our society today.??? Where is the balance???

So much money is wasted, and I do mean wasted, on meaningless things.. Yet, something with beauty, tradition and honor, closes...

This is great news! I played hookie the Tuesday after Mothers Day and drove up to see the collection. Not a disappointment what so ever. Actually, one disappointment. We didnt realize until we had only 10 miles to go that Bonsai Northwest is closed on Monday and Tuesday. We did enjoy the collection and that made it well worth the dirve.

Here are a few of my favorites

Thank you! Now the decision is difficult- DC in September for my vacation or Vancouver/Seattle?

Mother... I promise you tree porn to make your heart sing.... Few people enjoy shooting the Rim more than I... ;)

If I had to pick between DC and Vancouver Seattle for a summer vac... I'd choose here. Weather's better... and there's TONS to do even besides the Rim... :D Depending on when you are coming, you could even coming to the Seattle meeting... those are always fun. :)

I look forward to seeing all the precious beauties again. :) I've never really been able to settle on a fav... it always depends on the season.

If you're deciding on a September vacation in DC or Vancouver, as a DC area resident, I'd say take Vancouver :D. September can be the fourth circle of hell here as far as temperatures go. It can also be spectacular (clear, cool and pleasant), but it's a crap shoot . At least you can depend on rain in the PNW...:D

The National Arb's bonsai collection is on the "must see" list for any bonsai-ist. The 450 year old white pine that survived the Hiroshima bombing, or any of the other Imperial bonsai...or John Naka's trees, or Vaughn Banting's...are just the starters. If you're planning a trip, mid-spring or mid-autumn are the best times (for temperatures, as well as crowds) to come.

DC is a beautiful city, but the Vancouver/Victoria/Seattle region is really gorgeous. If you hate hot humid weather, stay away from DC in the summer (not too mention, way too many tourists). Spring and fall here are really nice times to visit.

Just in time for me. I will be driving to Vancouver area around June 27 - 28, so I will definitely stop to see the exhibit.

Is the Rim collection anywhere close to your convention?

Its about 40 mins away... And Elandan is about 15. You have to see both. :D

Everything depends on when you are flying in love... If you come in Thurs, then I can take you to Bonsai Northwest and Elandan, but the Rim is closed... If you leave Monday I can take you by the Rim before you go... but I won't be able to take you to Bonsai Northwest because they aren't open on Monday... And even though Elandan is closed, I can take you there on a Monday... But if you come in on Wednesday I can take you to EVERYTHING. :D Just land in the morning... lol

Then you can help me get ready for the con...:rolleyes:;):):D:cool:

love yah,

No way... what are you coming up here for??? :D:D:D

Vacation. We will take a road-trip to the North-West, the final destination is Vancouver Island. But we will stop on the way, for a few days, to make the trip more enjoyable.
I will probably be in Seattle on Tuesday, June the 29th. My wife has her best friend live up there.
Since she will want to spend some time with her, may be you can spare an hour or two for me?
