Hell yeah!

Soon as it shows life I'll Probly set the first branches.

Then maybe after some energy gain cut it back and wire out secondaries.

I gotta recheck timings and such.

If the right stars align I'd like to bring it up to a workshop or what...

Baseball season next year is thick.
But Home is in Burr Ridge...
So sneaking over to THG should be more frequent!

Hey...do these copied and pasted quotes get you an alert?

I received an alert.

We should definitely link up when you style that tree.

I'll bring a tree to style also.

Report back next spring. Then you'll know if it's (genius), or not.

This surely dulled out for winter...
Been slowly greening up the last weekish.

Already passed the date I first purchased it last year, and with higher temps predicted than we dipped down to last year.......

Looks like We still Pimpin!

That is officially what I Lost to winter. Pimpin!

However, I want to understand the health of this a little better, in regards to what makes my foliage so different from little pimpin.
20180413_170250_Burst01.jpg
My old Shimp is still dormant, this about the 3rd or fourth week it's been coming out of bronze, and it will go growing green this week..

But this foliage was never as Soft, or as blue, as this little Pimpin'.

I sent a message to Dave Lord (dunno if he's here, great dude!) To see what fert he been using, and trying To squeeze out other info...

I want to understand this, as if I can get this "softer bluer" growth...it Seems more capable of taking bending, chopping, and the rather extreme reduction I need to hairpin balance before this gets away from me.

If this harder, stiffer, greener growth is common place, I will have a more comfortable place to assess from.

I guess its worth noting that this was shaded and wintered above 34f at THG and it didn't have that soft blue then either.

Is it possible I am still fighting that initial week of freeze when I brought it home Spring 2017?

Once I find this out ....it's on to actually research pad development and so on...
When I will be in that different "stage" that I will be a rookie again in!

This and a few other random J's ready for this pad attention this year.

20180413_170321.jpg
I had ICE heavy on this...like 2inches in the canopy. So I think these black tips are just damage from that.

20180413_170305.jpg
General top looking OK.
Kinda expected small runners in fall after that repot ....healthy and short.

With any skill, those will shoot out in the perfect places so I can keep a lot of energy safely for a hard style and start good "proper nexts".

Unless I shouldn't! This blue fucker threw me for a loop!

As my dear ole Dad used to say...Are you braggin or complainin?
LOL Dude that's braggin rights right there. Awesome !

I'm still so amazed myself I can't brag!

But Damn if going almost perfectly against the book didn't produce!

It's just not supposed to happen!

Boasting this amazingness yes!

I'll brag when this is styled AND living.
That'll be quite a milestone....and damned if it might not put a "finished" tree in my lifetimes grasp!

Thank you sir!

You can get it to blue up by giving it Mir acid with a touch of Epsom salts mixed in one a month or so.

So DE is on the other end of the PH scale?
That would make sense for me...

The Blue is pretty...but the soft...the soft...is where I need this to be to bend it easier!

I think I may go a bit heavier with the Epsom salt this season...I only used a little in spring...and at Mugo repot season.

If you had a question, I couldn’t decipher it. But I’m glad it made it through your winter.

Is this little pimpin the other variety?
Kishu?
Is the blue and soft a tell?

It does not look like a Kishu, Itoigawa, or Shimpaku to me but those pictures make it difficult to see clearly. Perhaps a couple of shots alone with a plain background? The blue you speak of? I don't have that in those species here, confused I am :p
