The "NOT SHOHIN" maple forest

Thanks Darlene. In part large numbers were planted to anticipate possible dieback. But mostly it was to set a vision down of what I had in mind and work from there. Get a feel for the forest as it grows and responds to your initial idea. The game of subtraction in bonsai is more easily played that adding. There will be most likely further edits in the future as the trees mature.
Thanks for explaining Sergio. I've nerver really had one explain let alone take on such an endeavor as you have with this project. It's stunning for sure!

This is an amazing project. annot believe I missed this one before!

Thanks @leatherback! Ways to go still. One singular instance where I basically started from scratch except a couple of the larger trees. Ideally the trees should have been grown and refined in separate smaller groups for a few years and then the forest assembled together. But this was something that came to me one day, Roy was available to create a pot and off I went!

Roy has asked me about it and I keep telling him there is nothing to see yet LOL!

I almost like it better without the third heavier tree...

And I think I agree Juds! I go back and forth with the idea of replacing the dead tree. But also the forest no doubt will get denser with ramification so I have to account for all that as well. I also want the "pacing" of the spacing between trees to be varied and interesting.

As a side note, I think I will experiment this year with growing this forest on a steep angle so that I get a natural lean and potentially stronger growth towards the right. We'll see.

Something about the smaller trees without that larger one just feels more natural. Will be fun to see this one maturing.

Absolutely amazing Sergio! A man with a vision strikes again...good job. Peter

Thanks @Flounder61. The last set of photos shows the latest incarnation. It has ways to go still

I believe the key to the uniqueness of this composition is the dramatic descent in the height of the trees. I must carefully manage that.

It looks like a line of trees in a fence line. But with out the fence line. Beautiful.

Mach5: How about an update/photo on how this piece looks now???

Holy christ that is amazing. Could you post a current photo, MACH5?
Flounder 61...I appreciate your enthusiasm for this wonderful forest, but want to note that to some of us on this site, Christ is Holy and you should at least capitalism His name.

Philippians 2:10-11 New King James Version (NKJV)
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

This is a fabulous composition. Being new to this site I have not seen it before. I have envisioned making a couple long narrow pots similar to this when I have the time, perhaps this summer. I am so happy to see this work from outside the box. You have made it real personal.

Looks like they are taking to their new home well. What's the plan for this year?

Lars, I will cut back in June and hope for a second budding to continue building upon set composition. Maple seedlings do take a while to gain strength and get going. Usually not until the third year or so.

Thank you @penumbra. I hope to create more different ones in the future. We'll see.

Sergio. Will you defoliate this in June prior to pruning back and making adjustments?

No, not this one Will. If I defoliate the seedlings, it will set them back rather than promote strong second flush.
