Those are really nice pots, Al. I particularly like the Chinese one - a little unusual, and maybe it won't wear as well visually over time as the more classic designs, but it still has nice lines and seemingly good workmanship. I'm non-traditional about many aspects of bonsai, but clean lines and elegant workmanship is almost always essential to my taste in pots for some reason.

In keeping with that, I bought two small, handsome Tokoname pots, as well as a large and impressive Jim Barrett pot - apparently his second of a pot he made for a Kimura demo tree. Gorgeous. I'm probably deluding myself by thinking I have anything large or worthy enough to put in it, but sometimes I just like to have a beautiful pot "in case someday I need it". :D

Also picked up a Mendocino cypress and a delicious little redwood from Zach - always great stuff.

All this was driven back in Dan's truck, so I haven't gone to pick it up yet from him - when I do I'll post a pic.

Did you just say that you picked up the little one that had three or four curves in its trunk?..not the S-curves, but the sharper ones. I know I should have never mentioned it to you. What was I thinking?

I e-mailed Bob yesterday for that tree, I was hoping that he reserves it for me. Well, it's all over now:)

I got a Sarah Rayner shonin cascade pot, a Jim Gremel accent pot, some tools, two Mendocino cypress yamadori (the third one snatched by Will aka grouper52:mad:)), one redwood yamadori (looks like a hollow felled log - unbelievably interesting), and one contorted trunk mame shimpaku from Mas Ishii.

A note on the shimpaku: this is going to be very exciting because the tree, in spite of the tiny size, will be a literati (a five inch tall literati). I just have to select and develop the appropriate branches, which is cool, since right now the tree has a broom on top of a fantastic trunk. It will be refreshing to work on a 3-year project, in addition to the usual 10 - 15 year projects that I have.

I got this set of Si-Diao tools. I used them when I worked on a CA Juniper w/ Boon a month or so ago. I really like them and keep practicing. If you have not checked them out, I highly recommend them. I know Boon has just about all his Cheng Cheng's tools now and likes them alot. I also bought some copper wire from Jim G.

No, I don't think so. The one I got was one of the larger ones, and I got it early in the convention, before we even talked about them. :D

Great, thank you, thank you!
So, that little one may still be available. I will ask Bob about it.

He said that he will be at the shohin convention in February, and will bring more trees. BTW, does anybody know where and when exactly is that shohin convention? I may have to drive up there (wherever it will be) to pick up a few more trees.

Ah shucks, I just wet myself. Would I like to go to something like that once in my lifetime, hell yes, but I'm probably 4 or 5k better off. Thanks for posting, I really appreciate see quality mechandise and trees like that in a vendor area, it renews my faith in the hobby. Those junipers wouldn't have lasted long............

keep it green,
Harry

Hey Al, I do have one question in post #31, first picture, who's area is that, I like that style of display tables, thanks.
