Hm.. Does this peel?

@Anthony I was wondering.. Does this have bigger leaves ?

@Clicio could it be that the bigger tree I brought, was an ironwood instead of a BRT?

Yes @leatherback , I doubt it, but it could be the Leopard Tree.
The vendor that sold you the tree was later that day commenting with some friends he had found an excellent source of BLTs (Ironwood).
By the trunk, I am quite sure yours is a BRT, but as we didn't see the foliage...
And of course BLTs have no thorns.
The bark peels down, it is not green as the BRT, but more towards whitish/gray.
Very, very beautiful, there are many grown trees around the main avenues of the Jardins neighbourhood.
I have sent you some pictures of Ironwood two or three years ago.
Found one:

That looks very much like the one I have. It would explain why the leaves are much larger than the seedlings I have!

nope, no thorns

Lucky guy!
It's MUCH more rare to find a good LT than a BRT in Brazil.
Look at the trunk of the one @Anthony has shown us; it can become a beautiful big bonsai, better than BRTs in my modest opinion.
Take good care of it!
;)

Odd. So I need to ask @Anthony how to care for it?
You think it indeed is not a BRT?
Guess I need to drop in in Sampa again ;)

I’m new , what is thorn in bonsai? Just if the tree has thorns or something else in bonsai language?
Yeah.. Is this species able to defend itself when you start bare-handed bending. Does it have thorns.

This tree has no thorns.
I will happily send seeds - free - when the virus is over.
Seeds are normally - April / May
Anthony

Bark also flakes
Surface roots are also odd,
Cold tolerance ?

Damn that's an amazing tree. Wish I could see that one in person.
I will hit you up next year =). Hopefully the virus is done by then

This is the species?

Could be. The trouble is that "ironwood " is a nickname and there are some different species called ironwood around the world.
Here we prefer to call our Brazilian Leopard Tree "ironwood ", for example.

I have five from @Anthony that are in their 2nd year. They are doing much better here in NoCar than they were doing in SoCal. In SoCal they were deciduous (similar to my Texas ebony - but NOT similar to my Brazillian rain tree). When it got cold they dropped their leaves, but sprouted new growth in the spring. I would say they are a little more cold hardy than Brazillian rain trees... but not much.
