It is not an easy problem to resolve, and it certainly doesn't help things when people start yelling at each other and calling one side rapists and the other side racists. I think illegal immigration is a problem but that doesn't mean I have lost my humanity. I'm kinda like the rancher that drives around on his ranch with a big tank of water. He wants the US to come in and install a border fence to protect his land, but he also doesn't want people to die just because they made the mistake of thinking they could walk across 300 miles of desert.
The old adage; "Nature abhors a vacuum" applies to almost everything we do as a people.
Want to stop illegal immigration?... shut off the vacuum; fill those jobs with American workers at 1/2 the minimum wage and with no benefits... and, if the American people don't want those jobs, make the illegals Americans. Want to stop incarcerating people for pot: legalize/decriminalize the plant. Want to lower taxes on individuals and business; tax the shit out of the "sins" (tobacco, liquor, pot, prostitution, etc. The only taxes that I'd personally vote for.) Want to stop drug cartels from killing people and poisoning the kids; stop the demand... that means each and every person who needs "a little snort" on the weekend. Want to keep jobs at home; incentivize, not penalize businesses for being in your city, state, or country. Want to have what everyone else has; make a buck and save a dime. Want to compete on the world stage economically; realize that this is no longer the 1950's and become PART of world trade... protectionism is isolationism (yes, thats a word). Want to have a stronger social and family network; keep two parent families intact, and don't have children if you aren't going to foster a good person for the world to embrace. (*And fostering a good person, has nothing to do with the level of income in the home)
All of the answers to solve all of the problems are right in front of everyone to see; it just takes the right people to get off their ass and do what needs to be done, even if it goes against "the party line" or personal interests or beliefs... sometimes it's a personal change, sometimes it's a governmental change.
IMHO, when governments allow the same issues to persist from one regime to another, for years upon years, it simply means that they have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo... I don't think anyone in the past number of governments WANTED to address these problems; you choose the reason(s) why...
We all know that "you can't push a rope"... providing Governmental "lip service", is a great example of pushing a rope.
... but Nature is the great equalizer in all things human... ... to some extent, I think one could argue that that is how Trump got in... he just got sucked up by the big invisible vacuum... we'll see if he can reach the switch.
*Please note: Everything that I just said applies to every country on earth... we have our problems here too, so does Russia, the UK, UAE, etc, etc, etc...
