Doesn't that tree know it is not supposed to have more than two branches coming from the same spot? It is going to develop some nasty inverse taper there!
so many scars
No winter worries with one of those. Just leave it outside year round.I must admit...your thread on fall colors sealed the deal on my last purchase...picked me up a sweet little trunk from Brent...of an Amur Maple.
Loved your thread and photos. Great inspiration!
These are as winter hardy a maple as you get. Awesome autumn colors too.No winter worries with one of those. Just leave it outside year round.

I found a cutting the other day that I thought had died. I pulled up the stick and found young roots growing out of it. If it survives it truly is a nearly indestructible maple.Indeed. Anyone one looking for a low maintenance tree, amurs are for you! No need to protrect them over winter. Mine was out last year enduring -10F for many consecutive days and never lost even a twig.
Darlene, the trunk is 4" above the collar of the roots.
Awesome, very vigorous! I dont see nearly the amount of vigor in my maples as yours; I need to get my fertilizing schedule figured out.
"let it grow, let it goooo" (frozen) my guess it's time for cutback...
