Brian... just read the whole thread... amazing progress, patience... and tree of course. Thanks for sharing and updating.Update shot. Shortened a couple unruly shoots, and will need to unwire and rewired it in the fall. Not bad for a first round.

Yes, for now the right branch will become that long extending branch, the left side will be a “second trunk”, and the back branch is still on for now, but will likely be removed over time. Since that whorl is right above the graft, swelling hasn't been an issue.Question... as I can't see on the photo... first level of branches at the bottom... there is still 3 there? Doesn't seem to swell too much/at all.
Next level development Brian, from just a stick in a pot. A nice variety stick in a pot though.Spring update…

What a beautiful tree! I got a 2 year old Zuisho cutting in October--I will have to post some photos of the progression as I have had to learn about when to cut back on watering in early winter, and when to pour it on in early spring... It has given me some heart attacks at both inflection points, with browning needles, but the candles are pushing and green and the little Zuisho looks like it is coming back from the dead. Here is a shot after pruning and wiring it at Bjorn’s last weekend.
