I have a 10 month old ficus benghalensis as well as a 10 month old ficus religiosa. I'm trying to work on developing their radial roots and wanted to know if the shape of the pot matters (round vs rectangular vs square)? I'm assuming round is best for developing even radial roots?

No, the shape doesn't really matter. What matters is that each time you repot, you carefully prune the roots so that you eliminate the roots that are growing up or down, or crossing, or are otherwise unsightly. You may have to graft on roots if your root mass is one-sided, though ficus are generally strong growers that will grow new roots readily.

If you maintain a regimen of repotting and root trimming, followed by allowing strong foliage growth during the summer, in a few years the roots will be vastly improved.

If you’re taking about a grow pot, find something wider and shallower. And what BNut said.
Aesthetically, yes it matters a whole lot, but that is later.
